A Tribute to SC Science Academy's Late Founder,

Mr. Nathan Yon

Nathan Richard Yon, founder of South Carolina Science Academy, died in a traffic accident on Wednesday, May 15, 2013. Prior to his untimely death, Nathan was a change agent who left the traditional educational setting in the Spring of 2011 to begin developing SCSA after assisting in the development of a similar innovative school in Newberry, SC. Mr. Yon’s relentless vision for student success drove him forward as he lead the SCSA charter committee through the planning process and into implementation of a school that fosters student and educator development unlike any public, private or charter school in the country. His background, qualifications and experience as an educational and business leader provided him with the diverse skills necessary to tackle the multi-faceted roles needed to birth a successful 21st century, STEM-centric school and learning lab. His enthusiasm for learning was evident to all and motivated those around him.
